Team bonding and employee engagement is vitally important to ADC & ADC-CM. We have always valued having our management and staff engage together in fun, exciting and enriching ways. This past weekend, our staff was invited to participate in a Virtual Wine & Chocolate Weekend Kickoff. The companies created a wine & chocolate event featuring wines from Livermore winery, Wente Vineyards and local San Jose chocolatier, Mariette Chocolates. Guests received kits including a bottle of Wente wine, a box of gourmet truffles and food & chocolate pairing suggestions. The staff was joined by sommelier and food & wine expert/critic/podcaster, Max Trujillo for a tasting and Q&A session. After a little wine lesson, guests enjoyed time connecting with their colleagues and kicking off the weekend together.
On Friday, November 20th the ADC & ADC-CM team gathered for a Virtual Happy Hour. Over 25 employees and spouses/guests gathered for dinner, drinks and raffle from the comfort of their own homes. The companies provided each guest with a box with all the ingredients for their drinks so we could raise our glasses together and catch up. It was so great to see many familiar faces and get to a know a few new ones!
Thursday night, ASHRAE’s San Jose Chapter brought together ladies from across the HVAC and Engineering community in their virtual event, Women in ASHRAE Terrarium Workshop. ADC was proud to have a woman from our team participate. Approximately 30 women gathered on a Zoom meeting to network, socialize and learn to build mini terrariums. The social event celebrated diversity in ASHRAE and helped connect female engineers in the industry. They brought in a plant specialist from Succulence, a local San Francisco shop focused on unique plants, supplies, terrariums and vertical gardens. Prior to the Zoom, each participant received a kit with all the supplies needed to make their own mini succulent terrarium. Together the women learned about these unique plants, proper drainage & watering, and shared an evening of conversation and laughter while creating a unique piece for their homes. We are grateful for events like this that offer the opportunity to build relationships and support the women in the engineering fields.

ADC Vice President Lorenzo Rios, Jr. led a tour of the HVAC system at the historic Civic Auditorium in San Jose on Wednesday. ASHRAE members stepped away from the excitement of the Sharks’ game 7 and the Warriors game to investigate the built up air handler, the disguised decorative diffusers, the modular chiller, and the new electric service required for the addition of cooling. The addition of return grilles required penetrating a cast-in-place concrete wall and carbon reinforcements and are hidden in place with coverings that match the style of the building (the grilles are the three large squares in the included picture). The event venue operated without air conditioning until 2017, and the city had trouble with booking throughout the summer because of the high temperatures. With cooling added and operating, including a unit serving the stage, the concert hall now hosts events often regardless of the season. A copy of the presentation can be downloaded here.
