IBM – Building 6 Taurus Expansion

IBM Corporation
Taurus Expansion

Location: San Jose, CA
Type of Contract: Full Design

Detailed Scope of Work

ADC was responsible for remodeling 36,000 sq. ft. of existing building to accommodate the expansion of a Taurus Manufacturing Facility. This facility was designed as a class M3 clean room with ultra clean floor system. The design was planned so that the execution of the construction work was done in phases with no interruption to the operation of the existing manufacturing units.

The construction of this project was completed with less than 1% in change orders due to errors, omissions, and unforeseen field conditions. The facility has been operating successfully.ADC designed 12,000 sq. ft. of
manufacturing ballroom with 6 feet deep sunken floor which required underpinning of existing building foundations.

ADC also designed the equipment platform to support mechanical and electrical equipment. Utility infrastructure for the entire Taurus Area, including new Chilled water line, new Steam/Condensate
lines, new Nitrogen and Compressed air lines. Manufacturing Aisles and core areas with Clean room
environment.

Project Scope
ADC was brought in as engineering design support for the 50,000 sqft. remodel and expansion of their Taurus Manufacturing Facility.

Challenges
Our team would analyze existing conditions and design improvements and retrofits to utility infrastructure, manufacturing ballrooms areas, support areas for mechanical and electrical equipment, manufacturing aisles and core areas with cleanroom environment, and fire protection and alarm systems to support the facility.

Solution
ADC’s comprehensive design of mechanical and electrical upgrades to support the expanded facility provided infrastructure that enhanced the M3 clean room and allowed for a phased construction so no interruption to operations of the existing manufacturing area occured.

Achievements
On time, on budget, value engineering
