Overview

Advance Design Consultants, as prime, managed the programming and design of schematic, design development, construction documents and construction administration services to renovate and upgrade the main Lobby area of building 100 (approximately 3,000 square feet) in VA Palo Alto Health Care System (VAPAHCS).

Detailed Project Scope

The purpose of this task order was to optimize circulation and patient flow and enhance the hospital aesthetics.

The Main Lobby of building 100 has become the principal entrance and navigation point due to buildings 100’s central point on the campus. ADC set up facility and staff meetings to identify focal points and points of congestion for mitigation.

ADC started with detailed space program documentation for the aforementioned areas. Areas of interested included: Sidewalks, pedestrian access, and vehicle and shuttle cart passenger loading and unloading as it relates to the main lobby and Building 100 access, Security and safety needs for CCTV, pedestrian flow, and Emergency Department signage, ADA/ABA needs for wheelchair storage and access, Optimization of signage for modern way finding, campus and building wide directories, and digital signage, Integration of interior and exterior design guidelines to enhance aesthetics and provide optimum utilization of the delimited area, including flooring, finishes, and lighting.

ADC’s main challenge was identifying a temporary entrance and reception areas during all phases of construction, while designing and incorporating concepts of proposed solution that met economies of scale for the project limitations. Internally ADC utilizing Revit and CAD files in order to prepare the construction drawings for delivery in BIM.
